The convenient location along the Blue Ridge Mountains allows locals to explore the various hiking trails. Hikers of all skill levels, beginner to advanced, can take on the winding climb through the mountains or zoom along the twisting paths on mountain bikes. Blairsville locals can also explore Georgia’s tallest summit: the majestic Brasstown Bald. The peak features panoramic views from 4,784 feet above sea level and can be hiked or driven, to a point, to enjoy the beautiful views.

The refreshing waters of Lake Nottely provide ample opportunity for various water activities such as canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and swimming. Boaters can venture out and sit on the serene waters or take a fishing pole and try to catch a myriad of different fish including bass, rainbow trout, walleye, or sunfish. The beautiful lake is surrounded by forests and mountains, providing stunning landscapes along the shores. Another feature of this fantastic area is the endless events and festivals that take place along the water such as the Butternut Creek Festival. 

The Blairsville community has developed thirteen different festivals that are held all throughout the year, and celebrate everything from southern mountain heritage and arts & crafts to antique cars. One of the most popular is the Sorghum Festival, which has been drawing large crowds of people for over 40 years. In addition to all of the festivals, the Union County Farmers Market has seasonally themed activities throughout much of the year. Offering the very best of “homegrown and handmade” goods, the most talented farmers and artisans in the region gather on weekends for much of the year at the market to sell their produce, art and handiwork, right in our own backyard. It's almost impossible to not find something to get involved in. Blairsville is also home to one of Georgia’s top ranked school systems, as well as a state of the art hospital.

Meeks Park is home to some of the North Georgia Mountains most scenic walking trails, playgrounds, ball fields and picnic areas. It is one of Blairsville’s most treasured attractions. Butternut Creek and Nottely River wind throughout the park and offer a launch for canoes and kayaks. Located about a mile from the downtown core of Blairsville, Meeks Park is the location of many festivals and activities throughout the year including the popular Scottish Festival and Sorghum Festival. Numerous nature trails, both paved and unpaved, wind through the park and along the river. The splash pad and swimming pool are the perfect place for kids to cool down during the hot summer months. 

Located along the outskirts of Blairsville is the eclectic Pappy’s Trading Post. This unique venue has been a staple in the community for decades. The quaint shop is filled with interesting collectables, antiques, furniture, and a myriad of unique treasures just waiting to be discovered. Conveniently located next to a flowing river, Pappy’s also offers visitors the opportunity to go tubing down the lazy river. Next door to Pappy’s is Grandaddy Mimm’s Distillery. Lake Nottely is one of the most popular destinations for those living in Northern Georgia. This beautiful lake provides ample opportunity for camping and cottaging and is an exceptional getaway from mundane, day-to-day living. Lake Nottely is located approximately 8.5 miles (14 minutes) from the heart of Blairsville and can be accessed by US-129 North.

Suches is located about 21 miles (32 minutes) from Blairsville. Suches is known for the picturesque hiking trails and walking paths through the mountains and along the calm Woody Lake, such as the Roost Trailhead. The Appalachian Trail also cuts through the area between Woody Gap. Blairsville locals can enture down State Route 180 to discover this beautiful town. 

Morganton, Georgia, is home to only 300 people, smaller yet than Blairsville. This lakeside town is tucked away along Blue Ridge Lake. The main feature of this delightful little town is the beautiful beach area along the lake. Morganton is host to several festivals and events throughout the year, drawing in visitors from the surrounding towns. Located approximately 18 miles (20 minutes) away, Blairsville residents can get to Morganton by way of US-76 East. 

Just 8.5 miles (14 minutes) from Blairsville is the up-and-coming town of Young Harris. With over 1,000 people, Young Harris is made up of a mix of established families, young professionals, and students attending the Young Harris College. Due to the younger demographic, several trendy restaurants and pubs can be found in the area. Blairsville residents can access Young Harris by driving along US-76 East.
