Lake Chatuge is actually a man-made reservoir stretching across Hiawassee, Georgia into Hayesville, North Carolina. Construction of Chatuge Dam was completed in 1942, then the 7,500 acre reservoir was filled with water, with the help of the Hiawassee River, and beautiful Lake Chatuge was born. When created by the Tennessee Valley Authority, the purpose of the lake was flood control, electricity production and improved navigation, but the end result has had so many more benefits. Sport fishing is popular, both in the lake and below the dam, where a concrete weir was installed to increase oxygen production in the river and attract more trout and other aquatic life to the area.
Boating, water skiing, and paddle boarding are also popular on the lake, where you can discover a secluded cove to spend the day in total peace, surrounded by nothing but nature. There’s also about 132 miles of shoreline, creating some incredible settings for home sites in both Hiawassee and Hayesville. We have established a relationship with the communities in this region, so our listings offer a wide range of homes on Lake Chatuge, as well as on the mountainsides surrounding the lake, offering idyllic year round views.
